Happy New Year! Ok, I know it's almost the end of January. Sometimes the new year feels a bit over whelming, with all the "expectations" that the new year brings. Do you know what I mean? So I have been taking entering the new year a bit slow. I have been taking some time to do art and start really thinking about my word for the year.
I picked the word GROW. I want to grow as an artist, I want to grow in my intentions, in my self care, in my faith, and in so many other areas.
One of the wonderful things I'm participating in that is going to help me grow as an artist is The Journey Within - A Year of Handmade Journals. Not only am I thrilled to be a teacher in the year long adventure, but I'm also following along with all the lessons from the other amazing teachers.
Making the lovely little journal that Kiala taught for January was so fun. I love the simplicity and the ability to use either paper or fabric for the cover. I chose to repurpose a piece of canvas fabric I had already painted.
I really love how my little journal turned out.
In the first lesson taught by Kelly I had fun playing with watercolors. Her lesson was all about seeds and how you can use them to inspire your art. I decided to use lemon seeds.
My page evolved into this and I decided the lemons looked like the sun. So I did some lettering to represent the rays of the sun.
The next lesson by Tiare was using her wonderful "splotch art" technique. I love how spontaneous and unpredictable this technique can be. So fun!
There's plenty of time to join in on all the fun. You can check out all the details on The Journey Within here.
So what have you been up to? I would love to hear about your new year adventures and goals.
