Playing in the Studio

I have been playing in the studio! One of my goals for 2015 is to make my art a priority. I've seriously considered going on laundry strike, but I'm not sure that would go over to well with the family. It's so easy to get distracted by my daily "to do" list. But what I've tweaked a bit in the last month is that I add ART to my "to do" list. So it makes me spend some time in my studio just playing. It may be just for a few minutes some days and others I may get an hour or more.

One of the ways I've been adding my art to my "to do" list is by participating in a couple of online art projects. One of the projects is The Documented Life Project. It's free and the awesome ladies running the project post a prompt each week. It's really keeping me on track to create. The photos above are my take on the prompts.

Another online project I have been doing is Life Book 2015. (photos above are my take on some of the lessons) There are wonderful inspiring artists teaching this class so you get a variety of art techniques. I participated in last year's class but did not push myself to do the lessons. This year I am trying to do at least one thing from each week so at the end of the year I will have a completed Life Book journal.

And I've also been doodling. A lot! I started a little project on Instagram called Doodle Day Monday  (#doodledaymonday) where I am trying to doodle something at least once a week. So far so good. And Julie at Balzer Designs started a February project on Instagram called 28 Patterns (#28patterns). I wasn't sure I could keep up but it has really been fun! There are some amazing patterns being shared. (Julie even posted one of mine on her blog, squeal! Thanks Julie!)

I am doing all of my doodles for February on kraft paper and really loving the outcome. At the end of February I will have 28 sheets of doodles that I can use in my art journals or other projects.

So what are you doing to make art a priority? Come join me in one or all of the above to start adding art to your "to do" list!

Doodle Day Monday

Doodle Day MondayDoodle #2 for 2015

Last week I started Doodle Day Monday over on Instagram. I am challenging myself to do at least one doodle a week in 2015. I am finding that I am actually keeping my little sketchbook handy and doodling more than once a week. I was hoping that this little exercise would create a habit of exploring more in doodle art and it seems to be working.

Please come join in on Instagram by using the hashtag

Show me your doodles! And you don't have to post on Monday you can post anytime! :)

Doodle Day Monday

Happy New Year Everyone!

Let's doodle shall we?

Doodle Day Monday - #1 - January 5, 2015

One of my goals for 2015 is to make more art! Yay! More art! So I thought I would start a little sketchbook dedicated to daily or at least weekly doodles and sketches. To help me stay on course and to encourage you to make more art too, I am starting a Doodle Day Monday so that all of you can join in!

Your doodles don't have to be elaborate or perfect or in any certain medium. The point is just to make some time to doodle and sketch each week and to have fun being creative. You never know what will come out of just playing!

I'll be sharing my doodles and sketches with you each Monday here (on my blog) and on Instagram. If you would like to play along you can post on Instagram and use the hashtag #doodledaymonday.

What are you doodling? I'd love to see!
