Mixed Media Inspiration With Kiala Givehand and Stencil Girl

Inspiration Deck Blog Hop Header.jpg

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to the blog hop! I hope your new year is off to a wonderful start and I hope you are starting to make some time to create. One wonderful way to ease back into a creative practice is using prompts. I love using Kiala's Mixed Media Inspiration Deck for this. The cards are a great way to get you started and past the blank page.

StencilGirl and Kiala have teamed up to show you great ways to get started creating. I admit I was having a bit of a hard time getting going after the Holidays, but using Kiala's cards and StencilGirl stencils got me going quickly. Here's how I used the cards and stencils together.

Card #1 Prompt

I tried to work fast and not think too much about what I was going to use. I started with Mixed Media Art Spray and then grabbed a paper towel and blotted areas to create texture.

Card #2 Prompt

For card #2 I grabbed a piece of cardboard that was in my drawer and used it as a printing tool. I really like how the lines came out. In two quick prompts I already have a fun background started.

Card #3 Prompt

For card #3 I switched my tools and used some dry wall tape as my tool to create more pattern and texture.

Card #4 Prompt

I was excited to pull card #4 because I love adding fabric to my art journal pages. I just applied Multi-Medium Matte gel to the page and stuck the fabric down. I also added a coat of matte medium to the top of the fabric.

Card #5 Prompt

Card #5 let's go stencil crazy! I used the following stencils from StencilGirl:

The great thing about the mixed media deck is you can use as many or as few as you want to get you going. I decided to stop here because I really love the background. It's a great base for doodling, adding journaling, or a focal image. I hope you enjoyed the process!
