Junque Art Studio Play - Playing With Color

Junque Art Studio Play - Playing With Color

It's time for another Junque Art Studio Play™ video! (Formerly Fast Forward Art Play™) It's really all about playing, having fun, and discovering new things. I try to make time several times a week to play and explore in my art journal. To get in the "play" state of mind I find it helps when I limit my time to 30 minutes or less. When my time is limited I tend to not over think things and just let things happen. (Most of the time anyway.)

Inspired By Nature

Where do you get your creative inspiration? Are you inspired by other artists? A trip to the fabric store? Pinterest? The list can be endless and we all get inspiration from different places. I find myself being inspired by nature a lot!

Come join me for my March lesson next week in The Journey Within. I am so excited about the upcoming lesson! The Journey Within is a year long workshop hosted by Kiala Givehand that includes some amazing artists which I'm still pinching myself that I'm rubbing elbows with them.

It's a lesson on Taking Cues From Nature. It's a lesson that comes from my heart and I talk about how nature inspired me to create this art journal page and how I work intuitively in my art journal.

This is a video lesson and I  show you multiple techniques that I use on a regular basis to create my art journal pages. It's not to late to join The Journey Within. You have plenty of time to be inspired by all the wonderful lessons.

I hope you will come and join the fun!

What Inspires You To Create?

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. But to me just the act of creating is true beauty no matter what the outcome. Over the last few weeks I have been working on an exciting project (more on that soon). But I have also been making time to work in my art journal. Grace-JunqueArtOne of the fun ways I get inspired to work in my art journal is by using the great prompts for the Documented Life Project at Art To The 5th. The super talented ladies over there are so full of inspiration. Any time I need a little push I know I can head over there and get a quick creative push.

HelloBeautiful-JunqueArtThese are two recent pages that I've created using the Documented Life Project prompts.

How do you get inspired when you need a little creative push? I'd love to know in the comments.

What do you do with all your creative ideas?

Do you get creative ideas often? Do all those creative ideas get lost sometimes? There have been times when I didn't know how to wrangle all my creative ideas. One of the things I started doing is using my art journal to get all the fun things out of my head. This art journal page was created on a day when the ideas were blooming. Most of my art journal pages are inspired by something happening in my life at the time. The flowers in her hair represent all the ideas. As I was working on the page I was also making a list of all my creative ideas. Not only did I create a fun art journal page, but I also was able to organize my thoughts. How do you wrangle your ideas? I would love to hear your process.

Believe In Your Own Magic

One of my favorite things to do is play in my art journal. I love that it is just that...a place to play and experiment. Often times those play sessions turn into something that just puts a smile on my face.Believe-5I recently did this art journal page live on Periscope. Over the last year or so I have really been pushing myself to work intuitively and not think too much about what I was adding to the page. Periscope has pushed me to create intuitively in a bigger way since the broadcast is live and people are watching me create. I admit it's kinda scary creating live in front of people even if they are on my phone. Who am I kidding...it's super scary!Believe-2But surprisingly, the scary aspect has really helped me push myself. As artists I think it is important to push ourselves out of our comfort zone to grow...grow as an artist and as a person.Believe-4Not only are my art journals a place to play, experiment, and grow but they also serve as a vehicle for motivation, expressing feelings, and more. My art is typically whimsical in style but sometimes underneath all the happy colorful art, there might be things that aren't so happy. My thought on this is that I get out what's bringing me down and then wash it away with beautiful colors, elements, and doodles.Believe-3A lot of times I also incorporate an inspirational quote that I want to remember. In this page I used this quote I had seen in a store.[su_quote cite="author unknown"]Belive in your own magic.[/su_quote] It really got me to thinking that it is so important for us to believe in ourselves.  We are good at believing in others and their goals and dreams but we need to give ourselves that same support.Believe-1So I challenged my live Periscope viewers to "believe in their own magic" and post it on instagram with the hashtag #psbelieve.  We all have our own creative magic so whether you are a painter, a cook, a seamstress, a photographer, a knitter, a scrapbooker and the list goes on,  I challenge you to post something on instagram that you create to share your magic with others. Or if you post on your blog be sure and leave a comment on this post with your link. The world needs your magic and I'd love to see it! If you would like to see me create more art journal pages live you can follow me on Periscope by searching @junqueart. I am also in the process of putting some of my Periscope art journal broadcasts in my new Classroom! I am super excited to get the classroom going and will start it with some free Artsy Tips and Tricks. It will open soon and you can sign up for updates here.
