First let's get started on this fun little stitched pocket journal project. With just a few supplies it's a simple little project that you can stitch up while watching your favorite Netflix show. It makes a great notebook to throw in your purse, pocket, or give as a gift.

Junque Art Studio Play - Playing With Color

Junque Art Studio Play - Playing With Color

It's time for another Junque Art Studio Play™ video! (Formerly Fast Forward Art Play™) It's really all about playing, having fun, and discovering new things. I try to make time several times a week to play and explore in my art journal. To get in the "play" state of mind I find it helps when I limit my time to 30 minutes or less. When my time is limited I tend to not over think things and just let things happen. (Most of the time anyway.)

Artsy Dori Workshop Sale

One of the reasons I started this little online creative space was to encourage others to make time for creativity. I truly believe everyone is creative! My first self hosted workshop that went live in November was a great leap towards that goal of inspiring others. Thank you to all the sweet peeps that have purchased my workshop so far and trusted me to lead you in a creative journey. I have been blown away by all the wonderful Artsy Doris you have created! And for a short time (through tomorrow 6/21) the Artsy Dori Workshop is on sale! You can find all the details right here that includes a preview video. Keep creating everyone! It's a beautiful thing!

Having Fun With Color

Do you sometimes struggle with getting past the blank page? I know I do. For the longest time I thought it was just me. But I now know all artists struggle with the blank canvas at times.

One way I get past the blank page is to just start adding color. I have multiple techniques that I use to accomplish this but I am super excited to show you a fun and easy way to do this as a contributing teacher to the Just Add Color class at Big Picture Classes! This is a wonderful class taught by Jasmine Jones and Wilna Furstenberg and 15 other talented contributors (and me).

I had so much fun creating my lesson for Just Add Color. Class starts tomorrow and I can't wait to see all the wonderful color ideas. I hope to see you in class!

Fast Forward Art Play™ - Celebrate

Fast Forward Art Play™ - Celebrate

It's time for another Fast Forward Art Play™ video and it's time to CELEBRATE spring! During this play time I challenged myself to work with a color I don't normally use...purple. Now my niece loves purple, but I am just not a purple girl.

It was a bit of a challenge to work with the purple at first, but I do love how the page came out combined with a few of my favorite colors. I really LOVE the new stencil I got from Stencil Girl by Maria McGuire. I know I will be using it a lot! I also love the surprise I got when I was collaging some vintage paper on the center of the flower. I was getting ready to use one side and flipped it over to see what the other side looked like and found the word "celebrate" stamped on it. I had stamped the word at some point and the scrap piece ended up in my paper stash. I love little fun surprises like that. So I decided to name the page celebrate in honor of spring!

You Are Never Too Old To Try Something New

I posted this on Instagram earlier today with the caption..."Don't listen to that voice that is telling you that you are too old to follow a dream. It's lying to you. Just sayin'."

I'm really glad I didn't believe that voice! I'll be honest I listened to it at first. But if I had continued to listen to that voice I would have never pursued my art. I would have never put myself out there. And I would have never ever released prints of my art!

I am so excited to announce that I am now carrying art prints in my shop! Eeeeek I am doing a happy dance. It is something that I have been thinking about for awhile but #1 was scared (because of that voice) and #2 I had no idea how to do it.

So finally after kicking that voice out of my head...the one that was saying I was too old to pursue a dream or try something new, and after tons of research and trial and error, I just released my first set of art prints. It was quite the undertaking and learning process.

It was... and still is scary because my art truly does come from my heart. I create for me and when you create from your heart it does have personal meaning attached. But I truly feel as an artist you have to create for yourself first and no one else. That's the only way the true you is going to shine through.

Some of you may remember me creating this Believe In Your Own Magic piece on periscope. (You can still watch me create this in my classroom for FREE.) Creating this piece live in front of people really was a turning point for me. I realized I needed to listen to my own advice and believe in myself. I'm great at giving advice and supporting (just ask my teenagers) but sometimes I'm not so great at following my own advice.

I am so thrilled to be sharing my art with you! I'm so glad I kicked the uninvited voice to the curb. I have learned so much about this process over the last few months. I'm kinda geeky like that with all the techy stuff.

I hope you will visit my SHOP and have fun browsing all the prints. You can read more details there about how I make the prints. They are truly beautiful in person and represent my original pieces so well. (Oh and I threw some art stickers in there just for fun too! Because who doesn't love stickers?)

I hope you find something that you connect with and just makes you smile. Making you smile would truly mean the world to me! And if you do find something you can't live without please use the coupon FRIENDS20 at checkout to enjoy 20% off your entire order. (coupon good through 3/31/16) It's just my thank you to you for supporting me and cheering me on to make art. And because you are awesome! I'll be adding new prints to the shop periodically so be sure and check in often.

Please remember you are never too old to follow a dream! Never!

Inspired By Nature

Where do you get your creative inspiration? Are you inspired by other artists? A trip to the fabric store? Pinterest? The list can be endless and we all get inspiration from different places. I find myself being inspired by nature a lot!

Come join me for my March lesson next week in The Journey Within. I am so excited about the upcoming lesson! The Journey Within is a year long workshop hosted by Kiala Givehand that includes some amazing artists which I'm still pinching myself that I'm rubbing elbows with them.

It's a lesson on Taking Cues From Nature. It's a lesson that comes from my heart and I talk about how nature inspired me to create this art journal page and how I work intuitively in my art journal.

This is a video lesson and I  show you multiple techniques that I use on a regular basis to create my art journal pages. It's not to late to join The Journey Within. You have plenty of time to be inspired by all the wonderful lessons.

I hope you will come and join the fun!

What Inspires You To Create?

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. But to me just the act of creating is true beauty no matter what the outcome. Over the last few weeks I have been working on an exciting project (more on that soon). But I have also been making time to work in my art journal. Grace-JunqueArtOne of the fun ways I get inspired to work in my art journal is by using the great prompts for the Documented Life Project at Art To The 5th. The super talented ladies over there are so full of inspiration. Any time I need a little push I know I can head over there and get a quick creative push.

HelloBeautiful-JunqueArtThese are two recent pages that I've created using the Documented Life Project prompts.

How do you get inspired when you need a little creative push? I'd love to know in the comments.
